I have been a Clifford T Ward admirer for a great many years. He has made me laugh when times were good, has commiserated with me when times were bad, and then worse, has made me feel enthused when I needed help, and when I had my leg amputated, he made me feel whole again-through his words of genuine goodness and hope! I know he will always be with me in spirit, through his wonderful songs, his inspiring lyrics, and melodies that haunt and just lift you when all else appears to fail! God bless you Clifford T Ward, I know he is there with you now, as he is guiding me. His family must be so wonderfully endowed with all the lovely memories of a Dad and husband that was truly gifted. Clifford was and still is a musical genius.

I haven't listened to CTW for many years, but the other day I fell upon an old cassette with Mantle pieces while cleaning house. How could I ever forget how much I loved his songs and his voice?
Have now ordered the CD and there will be many more Clifford T Ward moments at home when it arrives. Was so sad to hear that he has passed away many years ago. R.I.P.

I have been meaning to "look you up" for the past 30 years! Gosh doesn't time fly! Big fan since the release of "Home Thoughts". Favourite song-too many, but possibly "Up in the World" or "Tea Cosy".However, can someone put me out of my misery & confirm the meaning behind "Tea Cosy". I can guess, but need "closure"!

For some reason I woke up this morning with the song Home Thoughts From Abroad going through my head. I have the track on a CD, Gaye And Other Stories, I am playing it right now. In my opinion its one of the best songs ever written.

Hi everyone! this is the first time I have left a message although I've vistited many times before. It was my birthday yesterday and I've reached the ripe age of 49! I decided to go back through the old record collection and reflect (it's an age thing). I picked out and listened to Home Thoughts and the mixture of emotions was unbelievable, the goosebumps still happen when the strings section builds within the song. I have to thank my older brother Steve for introducing me to CTW, and now my kids aged 6,7, & 12 listen and sing along to his music. I'm privelidged to continue CTW's music. best wishes to his family and all of you. R

Time and time again I come back to the songs of CTW. Gaye is an especial favourite and even now at 60+ can still evoke a range of emotions. CTW was one of the few people who could leave such lasting lyrics as a huge inheritance for music lovers. He was a genius and died far too young.
RIP Clifford.

CTW fans might enjoy a post I've written for 4th April about meeting the man in 1987 and Rumer covering 'Home Thoughts From Abroad.'

I loved the songs of Clifford back when I was in my late teens/early 20's and recently re-discovered the music via Youtube videos of the great man. All of my old LP's were 'lost' by an ex-girlfriend but I have just ordered 'Home Thoughts' on CD. I hadn't realised that Clifford had died so young, which is so sad. For me, he stands out as an intellectual and poetic songwriter. The melodies are so beautiful, the lyrics thoughtful. I wonder how the lyrics of 'Scullery' would be received if it was released today .... but they are of their time I guess. It's been great to find this site and to realise that there are so many people who remember and cherish the work of Clifford. Best wishes to all !!!

Just listened to Rumer's 'Home Thoughts'.
Good try but no cigar! Why, oh why, do some singers believe that they can improve on perfection. Changing from the original, be it ever so slight does not add anything.
It is, despite my comments, a joy to hear a 'modern' artiste have the good taste to record a classic. I hope that Rumer has another attempt at a different song. She has a wonderful voice which is well suited to CTW compositions.

It is a great version that repects the original.

Have loved your songs since the early seventies, especially "Where will that lead me" which led me to my husband to whom I have now been married 35 years. So sorry you are no longer with us in this life, but your music will live on through people like me to my children and so forth. With much love and affection.

Something, I'm not sure what, prompted me to pull out the "Escalator" album from my vinyl collection. I'd purchased it as a 21 year old and hadn't played it in a long, long time. I'm glad I placed it on the turntable. It moved me as much today as it did all those years ago. I hadn't realised that Clifford had passed on until I came to this website. Vale Clifford. I'll find more of your superb legacy.

Your music and words continue to inspire .. continue to heal .. and transport me back in time. I remember opening the album "Home Thoughts" that I had just bought by post from a new company called "virgin records". How quickly we move through time .. and how timeless is your wonderful legacy. Thank you. Big hug across the universe Paul x

My son died several years ago and Home thoughts from abroad always makes me think of him. I purchased his album around the time of his death and it is such a beautiful song. His songs paint a picture in my mind which enhances the listening experience. The best is yet to come is another classic. He left us with a wealth of music that we can enjoy for a very long time. Sadly missed.
